Karlsruhe is one of the youngest towns in Germany and flourished in the 19th century as a centre for science and art. It used to be the regional capital until 1945. It is now home to the highest courts of the Federal Republic.
Karlsruhe means Karl’s rest and the town get its name from Karl Wilhelm von Baden who had a lodge built in the middle of his favourite hunting grounds. He liked the area so much that he moved his home here and lived the rest of days in peace. Hence “Karl’s rest”
As Durlach does not yet appear on the VT database I will also include some tips here on my KArlsruhe page as it is so close to the city by tram.

That Flaumkuchen looks amazing. And as for another tip, it's always better to "taste better than it looks" than the other way around. :) Very nice page.
