Hallstatt is one of those places that you would never tire of visiting. The magical and historical little town sits at the bottom of the magnificent Dachstein mountain in the Salzkammergut region of Austria.
It has been designated a world heritage site beause of its' important archaeological sites and the mountain backdrop of caves and peaks. Salt is also one of the areas main features and has been extracted from there since the bronze age period. It is know as 'White Gold'
There are also charming little houses with their typical wooden verandas.

Great tips an wonderful photos. This looks a beautiful place, very atmospheric in winter.
We have been there last year and in my opinion the whole reagion Salzkammergut is worth to see it. I like this town, too. We have been to Celtic Museum there and also had a great trip to the mine.
I remember those skulls, from my visit, ages ago! All with their names written on them.Stunning town. xx
seeeee.... now I'm gonna go all homesick, sniff, sniff ;) x
Natalie, your Hallstatt page is outstanding. Each Austrian town and village has a distinct character of it's own and yet all of them integrate seamlessly to make an amazingly beautiful country. Hope you are doing fine.Warm regards , Ketan.
Noseying into where you've been at :o)) Would love to see the mountainous regions of Switzerland and Austria. Stunning... a treat to the eyes that afternoon blue!
Looks like an interesting little place.
