Zell am See is an unusual resort because it is not a rustic village like most of its small Austrian competitors, but a lakeside town with a charming old centre. I am sure it is geared up more for winter than summer visitors but saying that we found the place alive and well. The tour around the lake is a must. |
| | Zell makes good base for holidaymakers who enjoy travelling around. Having a car makes it easy to visit numerous other resorts like nearby kaprun. Cycling is also a popular mode of travel. Hiking is a good way of seeing the area and there are hundreds of marked tracks to enable you to do this. Parking is not too easy in the town. |

| Pros: | "Beautiful lakeside town." | | Cons: | "I can only think of limited parking." | | In A Nutshell: | "Will come back and see some more." |
