Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and is only 10 miles from the Atlantic. The city has a population of around 550,000 but if you take into account the surrounding villages this swells to almost 2 million. The city suffered an earthquake in 1755 and the city was razed to the ground. Most of the city centre is essentialy 18th century. The diverse architecture, the great restaurants and the narrow steep streets makes for an interesting and wothwhile visit. |
