Porto is Portugal’s second largest city and has a superb location at the mouth of the Rio Douro. Its old town has a mish mash of tiny streets that have lots of hidden restaurants and shops. The historic city is famous for being the home of Port. The city is so full of interest that many visitors do not venture any further which is a pity as the area around it is so full of charm with terraced vineyards and pretty countryside. |

penumbra Wed Nov 21, 2007 00:46 UTC I went south from Lisbon when I visited Portugal, but it looks like the beautiful architecture in Porto is a good reason to go back and head north. | marcbrazil Sat Oct 27, 2007 16:25 UTC Porto seems to be the most daring and progressive city in Portugal, eh?:) | magor65 Wed Aug 29, 2007 18:41 UTC I also loved Porto, its churches, azulejos and Lello bookshop. Good page. | atufft Sat May 5, 2007 16:00 UTC Thanks for the overview of Oporto, a place legendary for its port (the drinking kind). I would like to visit here someday. |
