We came here to meet another VT member Anne (Xemx) and were not disappointed. The portions are big (I only had a starter and a dessert and was full. We were lucky enough to get a table on the terrace in the corner so were able to admire the view across the bay. I imagine you would have to get here early to get a table outside.
The service was good efficient and friendly. Every time we walked past it was always very busy.

Favorite Dish: I had the seafood pasta which was scrummy and Chris had the pizza which was also good.

From fish to pasta and spare ribs too! This restaurant is in a wonderful location in the popular resort of St Julains.
We cam here twice and enjoyed it both times. There is an amazing atmosphere and the service is excellent even though it is very busy. I suggest you book a table in advance!
There is one downside though. The place is HUGE with an outdoor terrace too BUT there are only two ladies toilets.
Tip: Go before you actually need to!

Favorite Dish: I had the spare ribs as shown and ate them all! Never had a room for dessert but I did have some of the lovely wine that was on offer.
Chris had the steak and that was equally as good.

We enjoyed the first experience of this lovely restaurant so came back for a second visit. Situated just off the main road this cosy restaurant is pretty and very welcoming. There is aslo a small terrace outside where you can sit and watch the world go by. It was to hot to sit outside so we opted for the air conditioned restaurant inside.
The serving staff are so friendly and greet you with a warm smile. Fresh fish is always on the menu and is charged by the weight. Some are even filleted for you at the table. The waiting staff show you the fish uncooked and you can decide which one you want and also how you want it cooked.

Favorite Dish: On the first visit I had the chicken with lemon and sage and on the second I had the red mullet. Chris had the seafood pasta and the secod time he had the pork with the most wonderful cracklng on the top. The wine list is excellent.

Wiji’s Kitchen is a friendly and very trendy restaurant in the popular resort of St Julians. The menu is changed daily according to the fish and meat on offer. The chef is passionate about his food and it is always very well presented.

Favorite Dish: We came here twice. The first time I had red mullet. Cooked to perfection. The second time we went with another couple and we all ordered fillet steak. All were done as we asked for them. The wine list is also very good. Try and get a window seat as the views over the bay and the Balutta buildings are magnificent.

I don’t normally go on recommendations from books but on this occasion I am so glad I did! This family run restaurant is in Marsascala on the south side of the island. Marsascala can be easily reached by bus.
The restaurant is large and has facilities for parties and weddings.
The place has been run by the same family for ten years and is well known by people on the island for consistently good cooking. An excellent wine list accompanies the food and the leave room for the deserts!
Complimentary starters are provided while you make your way through the lengthy menu. There are also daily specials, which we decided to have and they were excellent. After a 2-hour lunch it was time for a long walk around Marsascala and then a sleep on the bus back to our hotel!

Favorite Dish: As a starter Chris and I had the home made ravioli stuffed with prawn and salmon mousse. This was served with a light tomato sauce.
For my main course I had the Bragioli which is a traditional Maltese dish of beef olives. This was the best I have tasted anywhere! Chris had the seafood pasta and there was so much seafood in it!
Desert was shared and we had the fig pie with home made fig ice cream. An unusual but delicious dish.
We had the house wine and this was really good

    ZERI: An upmarket treat.

This upmarket restaurant is in the Portomaso area of St Julians and is superb. We went with friends and enjoyed some lovely fish, excellent service and good conversation.
It is not cheap but I always believe you get what you pay for.
A large modern and dimly lit place is perfect for either a business lunch or strangely enough a romantic dinner!

Favorite Dish: For starter I had the poached pear and Gorgonzola salad. It was refreshingly different and gave me the room I needed for the main course of baby Swordfish served with Rosemary potatoes and vegetables.
Desert was equally good and I had the caramelised pineapple with home made vanilla ice cream.

This small restaurant is in Malta’s’ capital is tucked away down a side street of the main Republic street and was recommended by VT member Anne (Xemx)
Reservations are essential unless you want a long wait or risk being turned away.
When we arrived, no menu came but instead one of the guys told us what was available and more importantly what he recommended. A lovely plate of complimentary starters and a well-chosen house wine came and we sat and took in the fabulous ambience of this small below ground level eating establishment. There was a mix of people from a few tourists to the business people in their suits and some ladies who were lunching!

Favorite Dish: We only had a main course and a desert (apart form the free starter) which was plenty.
I had the linguine with clams, garlic, olive oil and parsley. There was so much of it! Chris had the lamb steaks, which was cooked to perfection. The deserts were a beautiful home made cheesecake with an almond paste topping and a lovely creamy crème brulee.

This lovely little café seemed to be overlooked by the tourists, probably because of the lack of tables and atmosphere. However the guy that served there was so friendly and the Banoffi pie was one of the best I have tasted! There is also a small Internet café at the back and international dialling phones for which you can buy a phone card at the counter. We used this place for a liqueur before going back to the hotel at night

Favorite Dish: It has to be the Banoffi Pie

This open air café is opposite the entrance to St Johns cathedral and is a real people watching place. Must admit it is not my favourite place as it is more expensive than others and I found the service slow!

This lovely Vienna style coffee shop is in the main street of Valetta and sells a huge and very delicious selection of cakes and pastries. You can sit outside but it worth going in to just to see the ceiling. This has recently been renovated and is so beautiful. It is the oldest and certainly the busiest in the city. Prices are not too bad either. 2 Coffees and 2 liqueurs came to about 5 Euro. We sat at the bar and noticed how well focussed the staff were. Very quick and friendly.

Favorite Dish: The coffe was really good. had an ice cream from the shop outside was which was very good also
