Things To Do: Tribute to the war dead
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • This is the first war cemetery to the German war dead that I have visited and must a admit I found it darker and more eerie than the others I have been too. I have visited many war graves and normally they are in bright places and have white crosses on. The German ones are dark and have black crosses on. These young men died fighting for their country in world war one and deserve as much respect as the others. I shall look out for more of these when I visit again.

Things To Do: The local church

  • Built between the 12th and 16th centuries on the ruins of a former moustier.
The style is strange for this part of Picardy as it is between Romanesque and Gothic.
There were originally 6 bells but only the largest was kept during the revelution to call the locals to public meetings. The others were melted to make coins. The big then sound the call to arms in August 1914 only to be captured by the occupying forces and it was never seen again!
