"One of the Three Best Views in Japan" and indeed one of the most important and romantic sites in Japan or perhaps a touristical theme park. Interestingly I was surprised on an afternoon visit I made here one steamy day in 2003.

As with all tourist traps the tourists walk straight into the trap, best to known this before hand and know what to avoid!

This said Miyajima is still worth while since the island offers some wonderful architectural, cultural and natural sights to see.

I have a photo of my Dad (occupation forces after WWII) in front of the Tori gate & I want to have my photo taken there too one day. He loved Japan, but unfortunately never got the chance to go back.

i walked way past the gates when the tide had gone out too, but it was not muddy, rather quite firm at the time. Lots of people were walking out to take pictures.
