Established in the early 1970s by the Hobart City Council - Salamanca Arts Centre is largely a space for local artists and crafts people to display, exhibit and sell their wares and works. Inspite of the over all Salamanca Pl precinct being a bit of a tourist trap there can be found here high quality hand made products and contemporary art, craft and theatre performed. The place is a bit of a rabbit warren, all the stores are located on the ground level while studios, galleries and management are located on the upper levels. The Peacock Theatre is located with in the Salamanca Arts Centre.

What to buy: Handmade or locally made post cards / greeting cards, locally crafted jewelery and homewares, drawing and paintings.

What to pay: Due to the number of different artist run shopfronts exhibiting their works here prices are usually reasonable and competitive for what most of the products are.
