what happens when you drink too much beer

Het Hemelrijk: Belgian Beers by the dozen

This place is verry good for tasting Belgian beers . They have about 450 different beers. And if that is not enough you can also taste the local drink Jenever. they have almost 20 kinds.

Favorite Dish: you'll find strangely named beers like :
Moeder overste (Mother reverent), Gulden draak (Golden dragon), 't Zelfste (The same), Verboden vrucht (Forbidden fruit), Ezelsbier (Duncky beer), Dikke Mathilde ( Fat Mathilda), Deugniet (Rascal), Houten kop ( wooden head),...

De windmolen - Hasselt

De windmolen

De Windmolen: Look a bit further away.

This little restaurant and winebar is a bit harder to find. But once you've found it you'll love this place. It's situated in a small farmhouse in the middle of the city. The house dates from 1742 and God knows how this building survived.
It's a cosy place with delicious food and fine wine. The owner Luc Bollen is also a wine-merchant and sells all the good stuff from Spain and France. Not the big winenames here because Luc goes every year to France and looks up local wine brewers and select them himself. Buy the way , you can buy the wines in the restaurant itself.
His wife is the cook and a good one too. She makes great dishes , mostly local Belgian stuff.
I like this place very much and the good thing about it is that it's right behind the corner of my street . So I don't need to walk far to have good food.
Maybe if you visit this place you'll find me there.....

Favorite Dish: The menu is not so large but the food which is served
is always fresh and fitting the saison. They look for good products and ingredients on the local market and take whatever is on hand.
Sometimes they offer delicacies from other parts of our country. For excample in autum they go to the Ardennen to get good wild meat like boar or deer. Or they serve the Westvleter Trappist, a beer brewed by monks, which is verry hard to get.
If you want to try good Belgian food and enjoy a cosy homely place, I think you will like this one

blue olive - Hasselt

blue olive

Blue Olive: olives

This used to be a jeneverbrewery andis now rebuild into a trendy place with good food. The name comes from the fact that the have olivetrees inside the restaurant and blue because most off the decoration is in blue. Nice place. Lots off space, so you almost always have a table free. And good -not -too-expensive-food.
So what do we want more?!

Favorite Dish: I had different kinds of dishes there. A salade with chicken an dmangodressing, Pasta Blue olive, Duck with vegtables made in the wok,....
Basicly you can't go wrong here. There are a lot of dishes on the menu, al kinds of things like fish , meat, veggie, pasta,....

a small delight - Hasselt

a small delight

't kleine genoegen: Classy place

The name is saying everything. It means The Small Delight/Pleasure. It's really a pleasure to dine in this resaurant. The interior is classy and the food is delicious. But you pay for it. It's not a place where you go every weekend unless you're a rich guy. I'm certainly not. But once in a while i offer myself a royal treat. So if you have to celabrate something, this is the spot.
You will not regret it.

They are closed on sunday and monday.
Check their website for more info.

Favorite Dish: When I go there i usually let myself be surpriced by the chef. They have a surprice menu where you don't know what it's gonna be. I must say that it never have been a bad surprice. The chef is excellent. Top quality. You pay for what you get.
This menu costs 35€ and you get 4 courses for this price.
They also have other arrangements and you still can eat à la carte.

Address: Raamstraat 3, 3500 Hasselt

Latino restaurant - Hasselt

Latino restaurant

Cafe Latino: Food and Fun

This is a great place. It feels like you're on a hot summer somewhere in Mexico. They have great Tex-Mex food. And in the weekend , after dinnertime, they remove the tables and make it a great Salsa bar.
Great pplace in summer because they have a nice terace, actually 2 , one on the streetside and one on the back of the restaurant.

Favorite Dish: Burritos latino . It's a big course and you can only order it for minimum 2 persons. You'll get burritos and a huge plate with all kinds of different mexican meats, sauces and salades. You fill up your own burrito the way you want. Price: 18,60 €/p.p.
THere is more then enough filling for the burritos and you can ask more burritos if you're still hungry.

Pocomatto: Pasta

This little restaurant has a wide assortiment of pasta, delicious pasta. They make the pasta themselves , so it's always fresh.
The surrounding is modern and classy. The waiters are friendly Italians who know how to serve their clients well.

Favorite Dish: Penne Aribiata. I know it's a classic but they make it so gooood.
Also you must try their suggestions, they are always different and surprising. Have faith in the chef , he's damn good.

Kookpunt - Hasselt

Kookpunt

Kookpunt: My favorite restaurant in Hasselt

This is my alltime favorite in Hasselt. We keep it for special occasions because it is a little bit more expensive then avarage. But it's worth it's money. The food is delicious, real fine ingredients from the best quality, made with a lot off love.
The atmosphere is classy but not to chic. I mean you still can feel comfortable and don't need to be all dressed up. In summer they open their lovely terrace which is warmed up in the evenings with ceramic mexican woodovens. Get the picture!
So if you like good food en an atmospheric surrounding this is the right place for you. The staff is verry friendly and make everything is just right.

Favorite Dish: Right now I can think off only one specific thing which is the Greek yoghurtmousse mmmmmmm...
This desert is so good, you have to taste it.
The menu is not so big , but they change it quite often, to what the season offers so you always have the best products. You can find the current menu on their website.
Prices: Starters are about 13€
Maincourses are about 20€
Desserts are about 7.50€
