Kathmandu is a definitely an impressing city, one of the most impressing city of the whole world. Once everyone is thinking about Kathmandu, immediately our mind will be taken back to the 2nd or 3rd century, and that’s real. Indeed, its seems that the capital of Nepal is still living, due to his architecture and culture, in another era, by far from where I am coming from. The center of the old city, called as usual DURBAR SQUARE is something unbelievable, full of small temples and people walking up and down. A great place to spend an afternoon. But the beauty of Kathmandu city is just the 1% of what you gotta discover travelling a bit trought is amazing valley. It is that, is the valley of Kathmandu the real amazing place to visit. Here you will smell and you will get in contact with the real nepali culture, from the religion culture to the real life style. Just to menthion the most important places that you have not to miss, no matter what is happening, I could start with the most famous one, Monkey Temple, passing trough the beautifull hindu temple of Pashupatuinath where you will guess to be back in Varanasi, to the bagmati riverside, or to the beuatifull and quiet Bodhnat. |
| | To reach the Durbar square, you could simply walk, but if you are overnighting in the tipical touristic area a.k.a. Thamel, it might be a great idea to take a cicle- rickshaw that will take you in few minutes ride (with few Rs fee) to the Durbar Square. Once you will be dropped off, and you will buy your entry ticket fee, the picture showes what is waiting for you.... Lots of temples mixed with houses, little shops and an open market in the middle of the street. In this area is not allowed to ride with motors, which is simply a bless. |
As said, the Durbar Square, and Kathmadu city is really great, but this is only the beginning of what is waiting for you. Do not loose the opportunity to travel trought is valley, where you will meet unbelievable people, where you will deeply smell Nepali culture, where you will see the practise of the nepali religions, from hindus to buddhists and where you will discover amazing temples and street’ life. Just to spend few words on my favourite site, the Monkey temple (see picture) is really amazing, huge and great. The rithm goes straight into your head...amazing! There are simply no words which could express the sensation of being in the middle of this heaven. I coudl compeare this situation as my first view of MachuPicchu in Peru...no words... | | |
