Restaurant Name: Krua Rakhang Thong
This restaurant is one of river-side restaurants not far from famous "Wat Arun" but this one is in Soi of "Wat Rakhang" (Rakhang means "Bell") Krua Rakhang Thong (Golden Bell Kitchen) is getting popular among locals. They have great taste of Thai dishes indeed.(real Thai taste) Some dishes are considered "ancient" recipes of Thai cuisine.Like they way they cook, ingredients are close to perfect. And atmostphere is nice too,you may think you're lost in Soi and "Where is restaurant??" but keep walking, once you walk pass "Patrawadee Theatre" you're coming the right way.Just go straight on. The resto is just right there. It's river side,You may call for reservation before you go.Otherwise, you might be dissapointed because no seats left.
Favorite Dish: hmm..there're so many favorite dishes I have here. 1) Yam Thua Plu (Wing Bean Spicy Salad) is great, wingbeans with a little bit of coconut milk and chilli, shrimps, eggs. This one is excellence. 2) Gaeng Som Cha-om khai : (this one I don't know how to explain, since I don't know how to call those ingredients in English..hehe) but it's spicy soup,a bit sour and sweet. Not too spicy though.Best one in town 3) Khoong Makham (Prawns with tamarind sauce) : Perfect combination, sweet and sour sauce mixed with tamarind. and other dishes.

Restaurant Name: FACE Bar
Walking into soi Sukhumvit 38 you would never expect you see something like this hidden in the middle of busy Bangkok. This place is truely amazing. It's large wooden Thai traditional house. Lanna (northern Thailand) style. (Lanna Thai restaurant) and the other parts are Indian cuisine, Bar,Pastry shop, cafe ..share the area of this beautiful house. Go there for dinner for the great atmosphere, it's relaxing with nice candle light. Things you may not like : staff could be very slow and sometimes don't notice that you were still alive waiting for missing dishes you've ordered half and hour ago. But they were polite and tried to do their best already I think.
Favorite Dish: HOR MOK PLA : (Steamed Fish in Banana Leaf) Good taste, boneless, just right for eating with rice. GAI PAD MED MAMUANG : Fried chicken with cashew nuts! always goooooood

Restaurant Name: MK Restaurant
So-called "MK Suki" But I'm not sure if it's originate from China? or Japan? or ..no where? But MK is very popular among Thai family for weekend-family lunch, dinner. Or group of friends. It's Suki Yaki-like. You order anything you want and throw them all in the pot that full with boiled soup. Come along with spicy dipping sauce, refill chinese tea. Dimsum also available. Going to MK you should be at least 2 people. Some people go there mainly not just for food but it's kind of fun to share your meal with friends and steal some of their fish balls when they don't notice it.. :-) let's say..to some people it's more like entertainment.
Favorite Dish: - Roasted Duck : Can order small dish. It tastes good with a little bit sweet sauce. - Seaweed Pork Ball - Shrimp Wonton - Green Noodle!

Thip Samai: Original Phad Thai

|
Restaurant Name: ThipSamai
Don't wanna make anybody feel bad but.. Pad Thai you order from stall for 15 Baht on Khaosan road is not even real Phad Thai but more like fried noodle. (anyway it tastes good too I must say) But if you want to try original Phad Thai. And it's not far from Khaosan Road (sorry I'm living around here... so my tips are mostly stick to this area.. :-) Let's go to ThipSamai (see the map) PhadThai is usually have big prawns in it. Which makes it very groovy. (ones those sold on Khaosan road is budget PhadThai..sorry...no prawns) and at Thipsamai they various kinds of PhadThai Price per dish goes for 30-40 Baht. There's a movie named "Jao Sao PhadThai" (Phad Thai bride!) showing in Thailand now. And the actress she had to learn how to cook Phad Thai,So the director sent her to ThipSamai ..for real! :-)
Favorite Dish: Well, it's not expensive, it's original, it's good old restaurant, Locals love it, best selling in town, I think probably only one PhadThai restaurant in Thailand that even has website. And they've been selling Phad Thai there since year 2509 (this year is 2547 in Thailand) over 40 years already!

Restaurant Name: Insect Stalls
You might have seen this on TV or somewhere esle :-) I don't know.... but to many people I think it's weird enough to see we're eating these insects. (In Thai language insects = Malaeng) I must say it's not my favorite thing to eat because as you can see they don't really look appetizing. My everytime I went out drinking with friends they all chewing these crispy worms and keep eating and eating them (The bamboo worms.. long ones, nick name is "Rod Duan" means speed train in fact they're pretty clean) Finally my friends managed to force me to eat those "Speed Trains" once. Well I have to say..it taste just like French fries..really Other insects I haven't tried. But if you do it let me know how does it taste like :-)
Favorite Dish: Not everyday you can eat worms, right?

Restaurant Name: Hemlock - Art Restaurant
Don't know what happened to this place. Maybe they need more friendly staff (or just simpy hire MORE staff ) Last time we were there ( last month, August 2006) waiter couldn't be any ruder. I asked him nicely if I could have a menu (please) he just snapped "Can you just chill out for a second?" Don't you tell me to "chill out" I come to a restaurant to eat, not to chill out. It's double-standard at this place. If you look a bit well-off you might not have a problem. They seem to take care "look richer" guests first. I asked for bottle of water many times, it's never been served. I had to walk to get it by myself. (from the case that was lying on the corner of dining room) I might be very biased here anyway, Just listen but you don't have to believe everything I'm saying. We were probablly unlucky that day. But totally, I hated this place that evening. Heard from my friend too that they've been serving like this for a while because they have not enough staff. Food itself is not that bad But a bit too mild for Thai taste. b For example, Tom Yum Goong is not spicy as it should be..really really mild..too mild!) The place is lovely, nice decorated. But they NEED to do something with their employess before their reputation will get worse.Anyway, another outstanding "selling point" of this place is they're "Art Restaurant" which means they are venue for art events too (photography exhibition, performances, plays) Get some flyers at their resto.

Restaurant Name: INDUS BAR
Very nice atmosphere for this place! Recommended for those who fancy northern Indian food in Bangkok with super sleeky decoration.. Jagged sand stone walls in 1960's Art Deco house, beautiful garden out the back. Yummy food brought to you by Kashmiri Chef Sonya Sapru. Free wireless Internet visit the all-day café. INDUS' Bar side also hosting popular "Arabian night" with belly dancers too :-) And regular "Bling Mondays" with Bill Calhoun giving away free hip hop lessons from 20:00 onwards. Call for more info.
