Nightlife Spot: Moby Dick
Moby Dick, one of the longest standing gay bars in the Castro has seen a resurgence as of late (mostly after the music changed and the plasma screens were added). You can find a good late 20s / early 30s crowd in here, from all walks of life on a Saturday night. Big windows open up to the street, and a huge fishtank is perched high above the bar area. The screens - also up above - play videos non-stop, but the music (thankfully) veers away from the usual dance divas / boy band combo most other gay bars seem to prefer into more interesting territory (on a recent night I heard Prince, Gorillaz and New Order, mixed with some newer stuff, so they tend towards the eclectic).
Towards the back and up a few steps there's a pool table (usually pretty busy, you may have to wait a while for your name to come up) and 4 pinball machines (although a bit too close for comfort to the pool table).
On other nights, the atmosphere tends to vary widely , making this a bar with a bit of a multiple personality disorder. In any case, and since it's so close to the other bars in the Castro it's always worth a stop
