It was 6 a.m. and I only had a couple of blocks to go to the train station. So no taxi needed, right? I'm bogged down with luggage, a camera around my neck, and all my hands are full. In short, I'm a sitting (walking) duck. In front of the station right in my path there are about 10 kids, who certainly don't look like they are going to catch a train. I think 'they've got me!!' so I do the only thing I could think of.While I actually walk out onto the street to go around them, while they are watching me, I use my best New York/American 'get out of my way or I'll smash you' look and language to them. Well, maybe they were tired and hungry and that's why they didn't bother me, or maybe they just didn't want to tangle with a seemingly 'crazy, violent' American, but it worked. If you can get away with it, you may want to adopt the '5th Avenue staredown' if you feel threatened.
