I have been to LA a few times and each time, I am happy to leave. I do like the weather, the shopping, the beaches, but I just don't get the attraction to the city overall. I'm more of a build up, not out kind of person when it comes to cities. Or at least a nice architecture kind of person. I read on someone else's page that if you consider LA not just a city but more of a region then you can have more of an appreication for it. Maybe that's the way I need to approach it next time. Regardless, go see it, say you've done it. This picture was taken in Hollywood and I look absoutely awful, but in my defense, we had a been on a train for a few days and just walked about 10 miles.
- Pros:weather, lots to do, some place people always want to see
- Cons:not a walking city, people aren't too friendly, smog
- In a nutshell:LA is what you expect it to be

Taking a taxi is a mistake. They must think that people have no sense of direction because they take you the whole way... more travel advice

I was curious why your LA page was so small - unlike LA (BTW we are neighbours in the ratings this week.)
Everyone who lives in the LA area knows to stay clear of all the touristy spots. It's pretty ugly there. And you didn't get a real feel for authentic LA people since people where you visited are from all over the US. Cheers from the beatutiful "OC"
LA is not for everyone. Some love it, some don't. It's a lot like NYC in that regard. Me, I LOVE LA!
at least you happened by on *the* very day the world's worst Superman and Crocodile Dundee pretenders were in town! ;-O As for best transport, I think that might be the Mini Cooper. Seemed to work just fine in The Italian Job...
Spot on! Apart from the beaches, L.A. leaves me pretty cold too. We've flown into & out of the U.S. via San Francisco whenever we've been able too.
