"The Oasis in the Desert" Anza-Borrego Desert State Park by PA2AKgirl

This park is really very nice and pretty amazing. It's a huge expanse of desert, but there is a canyon flowing through it that still has water. Therefore, there are a few oases that with wetland habitats. It's hotter than anything until you get to the waterfalls, the palms, the streams...it's an awesome microclimate. The one we went to was called "Desert Fan Palm Oasis" and you could hear the running water way before you could see it. When we arrived, there were people there from around the world, relaxing on the rocks, playing in the waterfalls (clothing was optional, don't be surprised)

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:not overcrowded, lots to see, close to San Diego
  • Cons:HOT and easy to get lost
  • In a nutshell:You have to see this place to believe it
