Morales Supermercado, Green Store: Grocery Stores

If you plan on staying in a place where you can do your own cooking, there are 2 major places to get food. Morales is located in Isabel Segunda and the Green Store is located on the road beyond Sun Bay right before you turn onto the strip in Esperanza. Either way, there's not TOO much to choose from and often when Steph buys beef or pork or something, she ends up just throwing it out. I admit, this stuff did look questionable. But, the things they do have aren't too expensive and come from everywhere. Cuban coffee (are they allowed to have that...I don't understand the US restrictions and whether they apply to PR), cookies from Argentina, lots of products from the Dominican Republic and Mexico and some stuff from the states.

These stores, like a lot of other places don't keep regular hours. The Green Store is always open, it seems and it's also a hangout. Don't get intimidated at all by the masses of people loitering in the front. They are all friendly. Be prepared to speak enough Spanish if you need to ask for something.

What to buy: There are LOTS of Goya products, and i buy those here all the time anyway. The coco frio Goya makes is good:) And you might want to buy bottled water. The tap water won't make you sick at all, but it does keep a temperature of 72 degrees F.

What to pay: Goya fruit nectar is about 35 cents down there, 65 cents up here. Definitely go Goya!

Address: Both Esperanza and Islabel Segunda

Directions: downtown Isabel II and on the way into Esperanza

Gift shops in Isabel Segunda - Isla de Vieques
Luna Loca: Gift shops in Isabel Segunda

So, I guess it's technically considered an art gallery, but they do have a unique assortment of gifts as well--not your typical souvenir junk store. She makes her own jewelry, there's some good furniture, candles, incense, etc. I like the way its laid out and the presentation:) Vieques isn't a huge tourist island, so there aren't an abundance of gifts shops.

What to buy: There are some locals artists in the area--Vieques and Culebra attract them because of the undeveloped natural beauty, so I always suggest supporting local merchants/artists and buying their stuff.

What to pay: the prices in PR are very similar to those in the states

Address: Isabel Segunda

Directions: All of the shops and businesses are located close to each other. Unfortunately, people in Vieques don't refer to anyplace by street name and rarely are they marked.
