We spent a few days in Portland in late July visiting my brother-in-law. Upon our arrival, the pilot noted that it was 100F degrees! We didn't expect it to be so hot in Portland! Luckily our hotel had a pool, and we spent a day out at the coast to cool off. BIL did a good job showing us around town, and around his new neighborhood - the Hawthorne District. |

Thanks for the insight. I'll be staying in the Hawthorne area and I'm planning a day trip along the Columbia River, hopefully as far as Hood River if I can fit it in one day! Hope I have nice weather too! | ZanieOR Fri Feb 11, 2005 04:27 UTC
The Columbia River never gets narrow and fast-moving in the gorge. There used to be some spectacular falls (Celico) in the river until they were destroyed by the dams. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to Portland! | butterfly_girl Tue Aug 24, 2004 16:21 UTC
