"A Perfect Gem in the Département du Jura" Saint-Claude by gOdOtPm

Saint-Claude Travel Guide: 2 reviews and 4 photos

First Impression Marked Me

Saint Claude is located in the flatlands of the Jura and despite of its relatively small size (over 12,000 inhabitants), it constitutes the capital of the département. The village founds its economy on the arts and crafts, specially those related with wood and stone. This devotion to craft work became remarkably rellevant in 1855, when a large number of artisans decided to focus their work on the smoking pipe. The tradition has been left aside nowadays, but Saint Claude is already on the map and several points of interest remain in the village and the traveller will remember it as a charming little spot on the East of France.
