Prizren is a town in south-westish Kosovo. Or as VT displays it, it is a Serbian town, lying in the southern reaches of the newly-fangled association of Serbia and Montenegro. Either way you look at it, as a foreigner its probably best not to air your views too loudly in Prizren (see Warnings and Dangers section).
De facto, Kosovo is run by a troika of international organisations (UN, OSCE and EU) under the banner of - you guessed it - an acronym: UNMIK - United Nations Interim Administration for Kosovo.
I was in Prizren as an election supervisor for the OSCE during the November 2001 polls that decided the composition of the Kosovo Assembly. This body would produce a government that should eventually succeed the "internationals" at UNMIK.
It is a still a charming small town despite the hardships suffered by its Serb, Albanian, Roma, Turkish and other inhabitants during the war.
More photos will be displayed shortly once I find time to scan them!
- Pros:Great food, pretty small town, interesting post-conflict environment
- Cons:Hatred still palpable, difficult to get to, expensive
- In a nutshell:One of the more charming towns in Kosovo, still recovering from the war
