"Nukus - Capital of Karakalpakstan" Nukus by albe2

Nukus Travel Guide: 6 reviews and 10 photos

For most travellers Nukus is a starting point to reach Moynak and the Aral sea, lying approximately 200km in the north. There's a daily bus connection between Nukus and Moynak, but one can also share a taxi.

Otherwise Nukus is an exemplary Stalinist-type town built in the 1950's, lying at the delta of the Amu Darja.

On its market you can get everything, ranging from vegetables to clothes and medicine. We were also able to change money there (US-$ to Sums at black market rate). In contrast to Arab countries plastic bags are sold, probably the key why Uzbekistan is a very tidy country...

After refilling water and diesel we started for Khiva.
