Hiking in the Park

Zion National Park in Utah is a geological wonder. The hiking trails are dramatic. Within a couple of hours, you can reach breathtaking vistas. This shot was taken in early morning at the rim overlooking the entire canyon.

Natural sculpting

Fascinating sights lie around every bend. This picture shows the results of hundreds of thousands of years of water rushing through narrow gorges.

Rock layers in Zion National Park

The Zion Park geological formations are Mesozoic and cover about 150 million years of geologic time. The top layer of the Grand Canyon, Kaibab Limestone, is the bottom layer of Zion National Park.
A significant part of the Park is Navajo sandstone. This picture shows the many layers of sandstone deposited over millions of years.

Is there still such a thing as ViewMaster slides? I used to have some of Zion National Park when I was a child -- but I've never actually been there. Those warm homemade chocolate chip cookies every afternoon sound great.

East Rim is definitely a Zion highlight along with Angels Landing. Good to see you made it up top.
