"Sunriver, Central Oregon" Sunriver by karenincalifornia

Sunriver Travel Guide: 9 reviews and 20 photos

Perfect location for a perfect vacation

A popular family vacation spot, Sunriver is situated on the eastern flanks of the Cascade mountains in central Oregon. The location is considered high desert (although it's really forest land), which means drier, temperate weather in the summer, and winters with lots of soft dry snow without the extreme cold temperatures.

Not enough time to do everything...

Sunriver is a favorite of ours for both summer and winter activities. Activities in the summer: golfing, kayaking, horseback riding, tennis, bicycling, exploring volcanic formations, river rafting, hiking, fishing.

Activities in winter: downhill skiing on Mt. Bachelor (30 minutes away), cross country skiing, snow shoeing.

Heading here for a few days of skiing right after week, though we will be staying in nearby Bend, so as to take better advantage of the flavorful brewpubs ;-] Hope your snowpack is doing well, too!

Sounds like just the place, especially all those bike trails.

I agree that it looks and sounds like a perfect spot for a vacation. I would love the "flat terrain biking"; it's those hills that I dislike. Some fantastic photos of the horses.

A long-time friend of my daughter is now public relations manager for Sunriver, and I was curious about your impressions. Sounds like you had a good time.

I once dreamed that I was a lifeguard on a beach in Oregon. Silly huh? I can hardly swim, but I still love the water. Is it a lot wetter (the weather, not the water..ha ha) up in Oregon than in California? SIY.

Looks like a wonderful spot for a hike or a bike ride.
