San Rafael, California lies about 20 minutes north of San Francisco, across the Golden Gate bridge.
This city, which now has a population of 56,000, had its beginnings in 1817 as a town built around the Mission San Rafael Archangel. It was later incorporated in 1874. |
| | The beauty of San Rafael The San Rafael area is loaded with natural beauty. After living the urban life for 13 years in Los Angeles, the comparatively rural setting in San Rafael is pure heaven for me.
Our state flower is the California poppy. Beginning in March, this beautiful flower is abundant throughout Marin. |

| | The people of San Rafael San Rafael residents are fiercely protective of their environment, will fight tooth and nail to keep their one remaining cow pasture, detest the use of cell phones on public transportation (unless they are taking their own incoming call), and are avid fans of Two Buck Chuck.
This picture shows the beautiful valley in North San Rafael that is my home. |
