Hope Valley - In the heart of the Sierras

Hope Valley is at 7,000 feet in Alpine County and is 20 miles south of South Lake Tahoe. Despite its proximity to Lake Tahoe, Alpine County is the least populated county in the entire state.

Alpine County is an outdoors person's paradise -- with its world class fishing, hiking and cross country skiing.

Pros and Cons

Pros:No crowds, even on a holiday weekend, very scenic, great fishing
Cons:This is the true backwoods - facilities are scarce
In a nutshell:If I were a hermit, I would live here.

I like the looks of that cabin! Hope the cheese tasted good. (The cheese that you brought along instead of skis on Memorial Day)

The Upper regions of the Carson River look like great places to spend some time. That isn't too far from Grover Hot Springs, is it? Isolated a bit in the winter, though:-]
