    • When we were making arrangements from the US, we didn't really know where to stay in Hvar, so we picked the Amfora, one of the two Class A hotels on the island. It is big, modern and typical of a government owned and run hotel during the Communist era.

    Unique Qualities: Too big. Too modern. Out of place in the historical town of Hvar. The next time I will stay at one of the private accommodations. There are many of them on the island. No shortage of possibilities there.

    • I did not stay here, but I did take a picture. This is the other Category A Hotel on Hvar, in addition to the Amfora. The Palace Hotel seems appealing because it is the former town loggia, built in the 1300s. Note the Venetian fort on the hill behind it.
