Walkin' 'round London town

Oh why, oh why would I wanna be anywhere else?

Parliament and Big Ben
Poppy Day, also known as Armistice Day, is a time of many celebrations and events in London - especially when it is the 90th anniversary of WWI. We arrived on the Saturday before and stayed through Armistice Day. London really gets into this holiday.

Four days of celebration

The first day we were there was Lord Mayor's Day, when the Mayor of London swears allegiance to the Crown. The last day we were there was Armistice Day. The celebrations were nonstop - we saw fireworks over the Thames, horse parades, bagpipes parades, veteran's parades, outdoor live concerts, outdoor documentaries about the war, commemorations, speeches - and lots of little red paper poppies worn on lapels.

A little (or even a lot of) rain doesn't scare this city. London holds all these celebrations rain or shine.

Is November a good time to go to London?

Our trip was off-season. For anyone wondering if London is worth visiting in November, I will tell you it is indeed worth it. There were no lines to speak of at the major sights, tourists were not packing London full, and hotel rates were discounted. Sure it rained some - but we also were treated to one day of sun and another of partial sun.

Pros:"Great history, beautiful architecture, clean, safe"
Cons:"The inclement weather completely mangled my flimsy U.S. umbrella"
In A Nutshell:"The food is a lot better in 2008 than it was during my last trip in 1997."

No, tofu isn't on the PChamlis menu these days. But, while in India, I ate my share of paneer.
