    Al Fresco Dining China Style

Favorite Dish: Lamb Kebabs. (0.50 each) We are really there for the atmosphere....there's surround sound and plenty of street life.

Yanjing Beer, China: Where beer is cheaper than water!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Yanjing Beer, China

Read this....BEER is cheaper than WATER. in fact, i think this is the only place that four BOTTLES of beer can buy you a can of 7-up! So guys, drink to your heart's content! Yup. Yanjing Beer is available in ordinary and pure. Of course, PURE does make a difference. Its pronounced as "CHUN" in chinese. I am not a natural beer drinker....

Favorite Dish: The other type of spirit you should try is of course, China's ER GUO TOU. Very high in content and the way to describe this is China Vodka...

Fuchengmen: Nice Jiaozi (Dumplings) & Leg of Lamb
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Fuchengmen, opposite Wantong towards the north

NIce restaurant at the side of the building

Favorite Dish: Nice Jiaozi and Leg of Lamb. In fact, I would have gone back there again if not for the fact that I made a boo boo of not enquiring about the drinks....the yogurt drink cost me 15 RMB and left me pretty sore when the food itself cost me a little less!

  • about the Buns?

  • Restaurant Name: Otherwise known as "Gou Bu Li Bao Zi"

Just meat buns....nothing too fantastic about them really. I would really prefer char siew buns from Singapore / Hong Kong.... Anyways, we got to try the original from Tianjin when we went there.... still, I maintain my stance, nothing too fantastic about them!

Favorite Dish: Lots of them at Wang Fu Jing though they are more the local sort. There is also one near the Tong Ren Tang at Qian Men...that one looks authentic....and expensive.

Local Delicacy: Zha Jiang Mian (Noodle in Bean Sauce)
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Local Delicacy

This is one of my favourites, the reason being that it is cheap and its easy to go down. Basically, the noodles (apparently i heard its the least fatty compared to the rest) are drenched partly with a salty bean / meat sauce and cucumber slices...mix it up and WALLAH!

Favorite Dish: The Chinese eat a lot of noodle dishes in the winter. Some are kinda unique....like DING DING MIAN in the muslim stalls....or the La DING MIAN....

First Restaurant: Guan Tang Bao (Soup filled Dumplings)
  • Tip Rating:

  • Restaurant Name: "First Restaurant" on Qianmen

Nice dumplings that taste better than the regular JiaoZi. You can find some cheap and nice ones in this BUSY restaurant along Qianmen called "First Restaurant". Its in the lonely planet. Mmm..

Peking Duck (Local VS Touristy): Peking Duck

  • Restaurant Name: Peking Duck (Local VS Touristy)

All of you have heard of the famous restaurant in Qianmen. Well, I have tried it too....and I can tell you the difference between the local Peking Duck and the Touristy Peking Duck. Aside from the HUGE price difference and the HUGE service standards gap, the local Peking Duck is that tad fatter than those in Quanjude, so eating it makes you feel sinful....otherwise, everything else is similar.

Favorite Dish: For your information, you only get the memorambilia in Quanjude stating the number of your duck (the nth duck the restaurant has sold) when you purchase a WHOLE duck. Gosh! 288 RMB was the price if I remember. (An elevator lady at my apartment earns 400 RMB per month) You can probably get a Peking Duck for 60 RMB at a local restaurant, but with no memorambilia....

I can't believe it,there're so many catholic churches in beijing, I just know 4 of them, south, east, west, north church. GREAT WORK!btw can you tell how do get all this information? MERRY CHRISTMAS 2004!

I remember the no flush outhouses in rural America. These evolved into the portable potties at events and construction sites. Often there are stories of trying to use the over flowing pot & we sit on it. City people had chamber pots.
