Well, here I am...and here I will stay from Aug 2003 to July 2004. Never in my life was I too inclined to come to China, but I am enjoying it so far. More than I am learning academically, I am getting down to exploring the city myself, navigating through the labyrinths of hutongs and artfully dodging the globs of spittle like a character in a computer game. Here I also bring you a rare glimpse of the Catholic faith in Beijing...Enjoy :)

Pros:"too many nooks & crannies to explore"
Cons:"Watch out for pot holes cos' you sure don't want to fall and taste some spit!"
In A Nutshell:"get your cameras and walking shoes ready....and lots of RMB too!"

I remember the no flush outhouses in rural America. These evolved into the portable potties at events and construction sites. Often there are stories of trying to use the over flowing pot & we sit on it. City people had chamber pots.
