You have to take a ferry to get to Ocracoke Island, there are no bridges connecting it to the mainland. There are no chain restaurants on the island, and there’s not much in the way of “fast food”. There are, however, bars that will sell you one dollar cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon, Off the top of my head, I can only think of one building on the whole island that was built with bricks. Up until a few years ago, the emergency line rang through to the general store. The last two hotels that I stayed at didn’t have telephones in the rooms. My cell phone doesn’t work here either.

Is this place great or what?
