The centre of Reggio Emilia

For me Reggio Emilia was just a train stop between Modena and Parma during trips to Milan. This was true until recently. One day I decided to go with friends to see a comedy in a theatre in Reggio, and we went there rather early in the day to explore the town. We were happy we did it..

Reggio Emilia is the city of Ermanno Cavazzoni, the author of a book I love. The book is “Il poema dei lunatici” and it inspired Federico Fellini’s last film “La voce della luna” (1990). Cavazzoni himself collaborated to the script of this film, that had Roberto Benigni as its protagonist.

So this is where Ludovico Ariosto lived! The Frankfurt Opera is currently playing a marvelous production of Vivaldi's opera Orlando Furioso, which I also saw in Darmstadt a few years ago. Great that Reggio Emilia has a Teatro Ariosto, and Teatro Valli.

Nice page! And it's good to see Cavazzoni mentioned here, together with Fellini's last movie. They both deserve to be more widely known.
