  • The tower is dedicated to Saint Agatha and a small chapel to the saint was housed within. As indicated by the small plaque above the main door the Tower, like many of the small chapels on the islands, was not a place of sanctuary. This means that if you had committed a crime you could not attempt to hide in the tower to avoid arrest. The main plaque, dated 1649, is the dedication of the tower to Saint Agatha. She was from Sicily and spurned the advances of her Roma lover and who then had her persecuted and put to death by having her breasts cut off with shears and then burnt at the stake. Although not connected to Malta, perhaps her influence was brought over during the time of Italian dominance.
In the past it was used for defence purpose and manned during both world wars and also like as a radar station by the Armed Forces of Malta.

  • I had a nice walk across this garden with Pierre. We were laughing and saying that he was the king of the castle with his queen. It was easy to feel like this since this gardens’ atmosphere takes you back to the past.

  • Motto of Naxxar - Prior Credidi - meaning the First to believe.

Naxxar is drenched in historical, archaeological and cultural interest from each period in Malta's past. It has always been one of the main villages on the Islands and has played a role in major events in the Islands' history, from the arrival of Christianity to the defeat of the Ottoman Turks.
You can find Parish Church here.
The Parish Church was made by Bishop De Mello.

  • The western coast of Malta is trimmed by the fantastic steep cliffs of Dingli. The upper part is marked with small cultivated pieces of earth, that finish in sharpened precipices to the sea. Here it is the highest point of the island.

  • This picture was taken from the Upper Barrakka Gardens, across the Grand Harbour from Fort St. Angelo. Fort St. Angelo is built on the site of a temple of Juno built in Roman times. The original fort pre-dated the knights and De L'Isle-Adam was the first to repair the existing ruined fortifications. Grandmaster de la Sengle rebuilt the old Governor's Palace, which became the Magisterial Palace.

Fort St. Angelo sits on the promontory in front of the city of Birgu (Vittoriosa).
Birgu,Bormla and Senglea known as the Three Cities.

Wow. Malta seems like an amazing place. Do you have a cacti garden? That would be cool if your climat can handle it... but I bet it would be difficult to weed - haha!
