Jewel of California

Hearst Castle is a fantastic historical palace filled with art in a lovely architectural setting. San Simeon is located about 3 hours north of Santa Barbera. If you can get to Hearst Castle I would highly recommend it. Just the drive up the hill to the castle is spectacular. The rooms are filled with art from Europe, and the building itself is a lovely spanish revival. The pools are extraordinary, with the indoor Roman pool being my favorite. Hearst Castle is one of the prettiest places in all of California. Not to be missed!

The architectural style for the castle was desgined in spanish revival, and is absolutely lovely. The architect was Julia Morgon whose distinquished career was working mostly for the Hearst family.

The Hearst Castle must have been quite a beautiful place! I enjoy touring historic homes, too. Happy New Year...regards from Texas.

Hearst Castle is relatively close to me, yet I've never been here. Your photos are gorgeous!

Great photos and tips for one of my favorite places, Central Coast...you've capture the 'magic' of it quite well! Only thing I would add is to encourage folks to visit Cambria, Cayucos, Harmony and the great wineries toward Paso Robles...it's heavenly!

Elissa, what a delightful page about Sam Simeon and Hearst Castle. Beautiful introduction. Pools (in & out) look & sound marvelous. Cambria sounds like my kind of place, especially the Sea Crest Restaurant. Thanks.
