"Dunedin-place where men walk around in kilts" Dunedin by Atre

Settled by scottish settlers during the 1800's, there seemed to still be a big scottish influence on the town. I saw a man walking down the street in a kilt (and didnt have the nerve to ask him if I could take a pic) and many of the locals seemed to have a slight scottish accent. This seemed weird because in Australia everyone sounds the same pretty much, except people from the country sound more hic...er, more Aussie.
The unique architechture and people of Dunedin is a testament to New Zealands diversity.
Since I only spent a night and a day in Dunedin there were a number of things I didn't have time to do, but would of liked to. Firstly the gorge scenic railway is very impressive (I hear) and a must for anyone spending time in Dunedin. Dunedin is also close to the Otago Peninsula which a lot of people come to see the penguins and seals there (boring, seen them in Perth). The street once thought to be the steepest in the world is also located in Dunedin.
Also if you are a student, Otago University is internationally acclaimed (well according to them, I had never heard of it).
- Pros:Odd locals, interesting buildings
- Cons:Very windy and hilly
