A Weekend in Rome

We spent a long weekend in Rome at the end of March. While the focus was on works of art in the city, we had time to see all of the main attractions. St. Peter's, The Vatican, Pantheon, Forum, ruins, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Trajan's Column, and much of the city by foot.
I would recommend, if you have more than a couple days, to check out some of the churches with renowned works of art. There are some amazing Caravaggio paintings tucked away that are worth the trip. The Palazzo Barbarini hosts one or two and is the Roman version of the Palazzo Pitti.
The weekend we were there the city was packed due to the marathon, protest marches and the canonization of 5 new saints. This made travel interesting but there was an awesome energy in the entire city.

Rome in a day

Over Easter weekend, I played tour guide for a Saturday trip to Rome. We took the morning train from Florence, checked my friends into Hotel Galatia and headed to the Spanish Steps. It was a great surprise to realize that I knew my way around.
In 8 hours we saw the Steps, the Trevi Fountain, St. Peters, the Colesseum, Piazza Navona, Piazza Venezia and had lunch. It was a warm weekend and, though the city was crowded because of the holiday, we didn't have any problems.
I wouldn't recommend giving yourself only a day in Rome. But, with a good pair of shoes and a good map, it can be done.

Around the Corner. . .

Tired, we plopped into a cafe and enjoyed sitting for a while before launching ourselves back into our day of "Rome Feet." When we roused ourselves and began walking again after lunch, this was the site that met our eyes around the corner.

Nice to know that Piazza Navona quietens down late at night. It was a zoo when I was there...

Baffetto's does have a crowd and for a good reason. The best pizza in Rome. Only about 2 blocks from where I stay, when in Rome. Caio, Larry
