  • Spooky!! Go by yourself on a cold, wet, Sunday morning when there is no-one else about. There are the bones of millions of people here, in parts of the miles of ancient quarries that lie underneath Paris. The official tour takes you through a minute portion of these quarries. The websites listed give details of the official and not so official stuff.

  • Not strictly Paris but very close. There are loads of company head quarters here and a big shopping centre. There is also the grand arche and an interesting art trail. Go to the tourist information centre near to the fountains and the Malongo coffee place for more info

    Louvre: The Louvre
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is definitely on the tourist trail of Paris. It is huge, there is too much to see in one go. Best is to know what you want to see, pick up a free map and go. If you want to see the Mona Lisa just follow everyone else. I personally prefer the ancient greek, roman and egyptian stuff. There is even an Easter Island head in there!
A lot of museums in Paris are free on the 1st Sunday of every month, the louvre is no exception.

    Musée d'Orsay: musee d'orsay
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is my favourite museum in Paris. The collections are brilliant, it is small enough to wander round and see everything and the building is amazing - it is an old train station.
There is a restaurant in the old waiting room which has lovely painted ceilings, huge mirrors and chandeliers and is not too much of a rip off!
It is free to get in on the first Sunday of every month and if you want to avoid the inevitable queue, if you have a museum pass you will go straight to the front, don't be afraid to ask.

  • The canal makes for a quite nice walk if you want to see something different. There are a couple of bars to get a drink in and on sunny Sundays there is often street entertainment a long with loads of people sat along the edges of it.

Directions: metro ligne 5 or 7, Jaures, is a good starting point, just head back towards the city centre

    Sainte-Chapelle: Sainte Chapelle
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • It doesn't look like much from the outside but upstairs in this tiny chapel is full of the most lovely stained glass windows. Best seen on a sunny day when the light can stream through!

    Palais Royal: Palais Royal Jardin
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • It is like a little oasis, never too busy and always warm when the sun comes out. If you weren't looking for it you might never see the entrance in the corner of the square near the cafe!

I've visited the Champs Elysees twice, once in October once in November. Never been hassled at all, which is unusual for Paris! Best done after dark I think, seems much more attractive with all the lights.

Nice page. I love the area along the Canal St Martin. It has some of the old Paris flavour...hard to find nowadays. Jeannette
