Mystical Sabah

by runwitme - last update: May 20, 2004

Majestic Mount Kinabalu
This is my second visit to Sabah, fondly known as The Land below the Wind. My first visit was in 1998 when I followed a bunch of fundraisers for Monfort Boys School to climb Mount Kinabalu in the name of charity. I made it to the summit the first time and I was enchanted by the mystical Mount Kinabalu. The sunrise on top of the mountain was simply breath-taking. I still remember how the rays of red, orange, yellow and white danced across the morning sky and then cast Mount Kinabalu's triangular shadow on the clouds below. So unreal. I have promised to return and I did!
Manukan Island
I have planned this trip since late last year. Managed to rope my colleagues, Woo and Chan Yok to join me. We were fortunate to have an ex-colleague, CK to host us, providing us the lodging, transport (in his brand new 4-wheel drive) and travel arrangement around Kota Kinabalu.

Our Brief Itinerary
April 30 Day 1 - Hello KK
May 1 Day 2 - Manukan Island
May 2 Day 3 - Kinabalu Park Headquarter, Poring Hot Spring
May 3 Day 4 - Start climbing Mt. Kinabalu (Mersilau Trail)
May 4 Day 5 - Going up the summit and down (Timpohon Trail)
May 5 Day 6 - Bye Bye KK
Sun Rise On Top Of Mt. Kinabalu
I brought back a lot of fond memories from Kota Kinabalu. Hope I can share them with you in my travelogues. Please leave your comments; bouquets and brickbats are welcome. Contact me if you need further info, I will try as much as I could to help.

Acknowledgment - I would like to thank CK for being such a hospitable host, driver, cameraman cum tour-guide.

Woo and Chan Yok, you all really made this trip unforgettable with your jokes and wisecracks. Thank you for enduring the training at Batu Caves with me every weekend for one month before the trip.
