Joshua Tree - A great one day adventure/hike

by ValenciaMan123 - last update: Nov 18, 2003

Desert Hike

Watch Out For the Jumping Cactus!
We started out in a caravan of about three cars for a day hike and picnic in Joshua Tree National Park. When it began to rain along the way there (1 1/2 hour drive from Anaheim, California) the girls wanted to head back. Albeit, we men thwarted this negative clamor with expressions of our manhood and desire for adventure; "Onward Everyone! It's just a few rain drops"

When we arrived, there was an occasional sprinkle or two from the ominous looking skies above, but not enough to thwart our unveiling fun. We hiked through the rocky terrains and presently dry sand washes with exillaration, stopping occasionally to take a picture or chat with a friend. The Nature of the desert floors beauty during the springtime was all around us.
After a few hours of frolicking around, we decided to stop and enjoy a wonderful lunch of fresh fruit cheese, and dried salami. We huddle together within the protection of a large rock formation as the rain drops and wind continued their intermitten carressing of the desert landscape. Along our drive back home, we were blessed with a double rainbow, reminding us of God's promise to our mutual distant relative, the Patriarch Noah.

Pros:"Good relaxing environment for day hike/picnic"
Cons:"Watch out for the deceitful, cudley looking, yet notorious Jumping Catcus. Once they attach themselves to you, or your clothing, they can be quite painful and annoying, Just watch out for them and you will be OK."
In A Nutshell:"A Great day Hike during the cooler Spring time."

Nice close-up shot of cactus and the rainbow shot. And funny one can give customer satisfaction ratings to one's home-made lunch ;-)
