Boston Transportation

T / subway: The T
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

Getting TO/AROUND: The T is Boston's subway system. This is in my opinion the best subway system in the US. It is safe, clean, and easy to use. It will get you to or very close to where you want to go.

The majority of rides generally cost $1.25 for regular fares. High school students and under pay $.60, and seniors and disabled pay $.35. Some routes have different fare schedules.

Just a general tip - if you don't know where you are going, pay attention to all stops, because it is hard to figure out what "shsgkantzflfdl" means when the operator announces the next stop.

Check the website for a map and more information.

    T / subway: Visitors Pass
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Subway/Metro
Getting TO/AROUND: A visitors pass might be a good idea if you plan on riding the public transportation frequently. This allows unlimited travel on the T, inner harbor ferries, and buses.

A 1-day pass costs $7.50, a 3-day costs $18.00, and a 7-day costs $35.00. You can buy passes at certain stations or online. Check the website for more info.

    Driving: Driving to Boston
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': TO
    Category: Car/Motor Home
Getting TO/AROUND: Driving to Boston is easy. From the west and north part of the US, just make your way to I-90 and head east. From the south and east US, make your way to I-95 and head north.

Driving IN Boston is another story...

Getting TO/AROUND: Unless you have a death wish, don't. First of all, the roads are not on a grid system which complicates things. Second of all, some Bostonians can be dangerous drivers, especially cab drivers.

I would only drive in the city if you have plenty of experience driving in big cities. This is by far the worst city I have driven in. OK, maybe not as bad as Athens. I am exaggerating here, but driving in New York and Chicago is like driving in Dayton, Ohio, compared to Boston.

If you are driving into Boston, park your car where you are staying and use public transportation.

    By Airplane: Flying into Boston

Getting TO/AROUND: Logan International Airport is Boston's airport. It is located a short cab or T ride from downtown. All major US airlines fly into Logan and many international flights from Europe stop here.

On domestic flights, if you are on a tight budget and someone doesn't mind driving an hour each way to pick you up, fly into Providence. I have done this twice and have saved about $35 each time.

Getting TO/AROUND: Boston is very walkable. Take time and enjoy walking down the streets and checking out the beautiful scenery.

I was wondering if you might know why Breed's Hill was named that. Also, why was Bunker Hill named "Bunker Hill", was it for any specific reason or what? And if Breed's Hill was named after anyone, who was it?

Nice page! Not many people from out of town know about the old Hancock Building's weather. Nice pics of Fenway, too!
