Patra

by grkboiler - last update: Dec 9, 2004

Cross of St. Andrew
Patra is the 3rd largest city in Greece and the capital of Achaia. It is a cultural centre and the home of a popular carnival that attracts thousands of visitors each year. Rulers included the Romans, Franks, Venetians, and Turks.
Skull of St. Andrew
Patra is an attractive modern city. Among its important sites are the fortress, the cathedral of St. Andrew holding the skull of the saint, and the nearby Achaia Clauss Winery.

I only had a few hours during each visit in 1994 and 1996 and will return on my trip to Greece to spend more time in this city.
