Patra is the 3rd largest city in Greece and the capital of Achaia. It is a cultural centre and the home of a popular carnival that attracts thousands of visitors each year. Rulers included the Romans, Franks, Venetians, and Turks. |
| | Patra is an attractive modern city. Among its important sites are the fortress, the cathedral of St. Andrew holding the skull of the saint, and the nearby Achaia Clauss Winery.
I only had a few hours during each visit in 1994 and 1996 and will return on my trip to Greece to spend more time in this city. |
