The city that never sleeps

by Cogee - last update: Oct 28, 2006

First time I went to the Big Apple I was 19, had finished school two weeks earlier and was on my first real adventure....alone! I signed up to be a camp counselor and had to stop in New York for my introduction. So much for an introduction! I landed at Newark late at night and was met by a representative for the organization I went with. I still remember my first sight of Manhattan! All those tall buildings, all those lights, all the people!
But I only made it to the orientation site to find out that I had to be at JFK at 6am!

After a summer of fun and adventure out west in New Mexico and three days on a bus I returned to New York to be a tourist. What I remember the most is how I snapped puicture up on the Twin Towers and then changed the roll of film....Did I drop the camera? Did I bump it? What happened? I came home with about 10 pictures instead of 40! The film was all blank.

The ironic thing is that almost the exact same thing happened two years later...then there was a road trip in NM, Mexico and CO involved too. So...after several photo disasters along the way I did the right thing and bought my digital camera and took lots of pictures when my family came over to the States for the first time!

New York is big, it's noisy, it's crowded, it's busy but it's a place where you can return and discover new things every time! A city in constant change!
