This picture was taken very early in the morning in the winter time. The light was not very good, but gives you the idea of what it looks like heading out from Cromarty Firth into the North Sea. One of my travelogues will show a few more taken from Offshore rigs and a few offshore rigs as well.
Kincraig house sets on the edge of Cromarty Firth, just outside of Invergordon. My great great great grandparents (many times removed) evidently came from this very town. I met an old gentleman who had known one of my great aunts, Lady Duff Gordon, who's family was evidently from Invergordon. What a small world it is really becomming!
Kincraig House is a several centuries old country house which has been developed into a 3 Star Scottish Hotel. It is really quite charming, especially the huge fireplace in the main room and the original plastered ceilings in the dining room.
Breakfast was excellent with eggs, kippers, potatoes and toast. Be prepared for your room to be what ever temperature it is outside. As you can see by the light dusting of snow outside, it was a bit chilly when I stayed here.
Cromarty Firth lies near the NE coast of Scotland and offers winter protection in deep water for the many offshore rigs working the North Sea.
The Black Isle which separates one side of the Cromarty Firth offers many small villages and backroads to enjoy. My travelogue on Offshore Rigs and the Village of Cromarty shows a few more pictures of the area.
- Pros:Beautiful Scenery, Friendly People
- Cons:No "con's" to this lovely part of the earth.
- In a nutshell:If you liked movies such as Dragonslayer and Braveheart, Scotland is a must see!
