"Not the largest of villages." Micheldorf in Oberösterreich by Jerelis

In the summer of 2009 I stayed with my two kids in the small village of Hinterstoder. On a heavily cloudy day we were not able to visit the swimming pool, a nice mountain lake to swim in or any other outdoor hiking event. So I decided to go the nearby village of Micheldorf, and although it is not the largest village with an enormous history I was not sorry for that. It’s only a 20 minute drive in a beautiful scenic setting, because Micheldorf is surrounded by the close by and impressive river Steyr in Oberösterreich.

Funny thing was that at the time we left the valley of Hinterstoder the sun started to shine heavily and we had a great drive in the sun towards Micheldorf. In spite of the agrarian village character of its centre, Micheldorf has much more inhabitants as the urban neighbour Kirchdorf. The centre of Micheldorf has village character and around the centre you can find a lot of housing areas which explain the high population of the municipality. So, Micheldorf is good for an afternoon of walking, exploring and having a nice supper.
