Crater lake is Oregon’s only National Park but it is very beautiful. It encompasses about 180,000 acres and as a park attracts nearly half a million visitors each year. Some of the fun facts of Crater lake are as follows:
It is the deepest lake in the United States (1932 feet). Only Great Slave Lake in Canada is deeper at 2,015 ft (614 meters) in North America.
Mount Mazama was about 12,000 feet (3,660 m) tall before the collapse. Current lake level is at about 6,176 ft.
The park averages 533 inches (1,354 cm) of snow annually and that contributes as the sole source to the lakes volume of 5 trillion gallons (19 trillion liters)
The lake is possibly the clearest lake in the world. The lack of incoming streams or other particulate matter often makes visibility possible to more than 120 feet (37 m). Other nearby attractions:
Toketee Falls, and several more along
hwy 138 and 58.
