"Sighosoara" Sighisoara by glenn57

Sighisoara Travel Guide: 392 reviews and 1,070 photos

Sighisoara (pronounced see-ghee-shwah-rah) is a small city of about 40,000 people, and a very old one. Tourists flock to its citadel that sits maybe 25 or 30 metres above the surrounding town. This is another of the "German" towns of Romania (although there are very few German-Romanians left here now). It now is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The citadel was first built by Saxons in 1191 AD.

Sighisoara is also famous as the birthplace of Vlad Tepes (or Vlad the Impaler, also known as Vlad Dracula).

“Why stay in an expensive 5-star hotel when you can sleep on a park bench with a piece of cardboard over you for free? :)”
