If you are in Melbourne and just want to go out of the city on a weekend, Philip Island is the best place. You can actually do it in a day with any of the tour operators or you can rent a car and drive around. There are lot of activities you can do it there. Most people told me to start from Melbourne around 12 noon...since you can do a lot....starting early by 8:00 or 9:00. It takes nearly 2:00 hrs to reach there. If you wish to stay for the Penguin parade…then return to Melbourne, be aware that the arrival of penguins are not at the same time everyday, so if its during summer then it may arrive around 8:30pm…So make your plans accordingly.
