Gecko Villa & the Isaan Experience | Gecko Villa, Udon Thani, Thailand |
Udon itself is mainly a commercial town - rice trading etc. Found a great place to stay called Gecko Villa, run by a young Thai couple who stay nearby. A great house and private pool surrounded surreally by rice fields. A great base from which to explore the rural villages, Nong Harn listed wetlands and Ban Chinag archelogical sitre as well as Nong Khai and the gateway to Laos.
A real expereince with truly great hosts who went out of their way to show us the area and introduce us to local lifestyle.
Good food too.

From there, travel to Nong Khai and Laos, or along the Mekong to Loei (taking the old road along the river). A very scenic trip. Basic accommodation and food but a great journey. |
