Chiang Dao National Park is in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand. Established on November 2, 2000, the park covers 1,123 sq.km. of the Doi Chiang Dao and Pha Dang mountain ranges. The tallest peak is Doi Pukphukka at 1,794 meters.

This National Park is a 40 minute drive from Chiang Dao town.

Chiang Dao is a relatively peaceful countryside surrounded by mountains. Its rich in nature and the weather is below 30 degrees in the day and as low as 7 degrees in the night. The town is rather laid back. Food and massage (70 baht per hour) is cheaper than neighbouring Chiangmai.

Chiang Dao town main highlight is the Tuesday Market whereby many hilltribe people representing different tribes will be coming down to trade and sell their local made goods, ranging from raw food, cooked food, clothings, daily accessories to tobacco cigarettes. For tourists, there is nothing much to buy except than indulging oneself into the market scene. Its an eye opener for those who are so exposed to the environment of metropolitan cities.

Chiang Dao Cave is the most spectacular cave in Thailand or maybe in South-East Asia. This cave is the creation by mother nature million of years ago. What is created million of years ago is the completed product now, a cave with many tunnels with some as deep as 12km. It is advisable to engage with a cave guide as its safer and with a guide, you can have the chance of exploring and squeezing into small holes that can lead to other bigger caves. Some holes are so small that only smaller-sized bodies are able to squeeze through whereas those bigger-sized people have to use other alternatives.

This is a new experience but one risk that is not worth taking if you are exploring alone. Cave guides can be employed at 100B per trip.
