Getting TO/AROUND: I rent this car for 900baht/day for driving in Phuket only during the low-season. But during high season Nov-Jan, maybe the price is about 1200bahts - 1600bahts.

Getting TO/AROUND: One of the best ways to see the wonder of Phuket is to rent a car or 4x4 jeep. Be certain before signing an agreement that insurance is included in the deal. A noraml agreement should read " in any case of accident, the hirer will only paid the 3000-10000 (depending on the contract agreement set by the renter, normally is between 3000-10000) and the rest is borne by the insurance company". Renting your own vehicle is also a convenient way to avoid the hassles of public transport. Avis and Budget car rental companies can be located in the major centres. Smaller and less expensive dealers can be found around the beaches (mostly located at Patong beach). Weekly rentals often come with an estimated 10 percant discount, while renting a vehicle in the off-season is genrally 25-30 percent less expensive. Off peak season ( for jeeps): 600 - 900 baht Peak season (for jeeps): 800-1300 baht Off-peak season (for cars): 800 -3000 baht Peak season (for cars): 1200-4000 baht (Prices for cars depending on model. Normally cheapest is local made Toyota Soluna) The road system on Phuket is well maintained and few hazards are found on the route. Be careful, however, on the smaller roads, particularly after sundown. If there are altars or ghost houses set on the side of the road, drive slowly. Because these altars or ghost houses tell us the past history that this area had ever occurred many accidents. Here are some other established car rental companies on the island. 1). Pure Care Rent 2). Silver Car Rental Co. Ltd 3). Via-Rent-A-Car To view a list of car rental companies ---> click here.

Getting TO/AROUND: Smaller bikes can be rented for between 300-600 baht per day. Classier models are often rented privately by guesthouses or by hotel owners. An important point to remember is that motorcycles don't come insured. It is up to you to drive with caution at all times and inexperienced motorist might want to consider another mode of transport. Remember to wear helmet. The island's police hand out fines of 300 baht if you are caught sans head protection. While the fine won't be too painful for your wallet, missing out on the sun and sand while you take time to retrieve your bike from the police station will certainly drive you crazy. Before renting a motorcycle, always check it thoroughly for any previous damage incurred. To minimise mionor spills and severe sunburn, wear good shoes, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. Drive slowly and safely. In Thailand in 1999, 178 people were killed and 10000 injuried in motor vehicle accidents.

Getting TO/AROUND: Motorcycle taxis can be found throughtout Phuket main arteries. Drivers wearing coloured vests (normally yellow or orange) with numbers on their backs generally negotiate the price. it is always best to agree on a sum before hopping on the back. This way of getting around is quick and easy. Hang on, these guys like to go fast but they are good at beating traffic jams. Price normally at 50-300 baht depending on location.

Getting TO/AROUND: What would a visit to Phuket be without experiencing Thailand's most recognised form of trvael? Tuk-tuks are abundant on the island and the three wheeled vehickes offer more safety and comfort than its two-wheeled counterpart. A set fare of about 20-40 baht is standard in Phuket Town. In other areas, the price is negotiable. Ranging 100-500 baht, depending on place and your negotiation skills. Enjoy the ride!!! Getting TO/AROUND: It is also possible to travel from London to Thailand overland. If you have the time (three to four weeks one-way), you can reach Thailand overland from London. First, travel from London to Moscow, then travel from Moscow to Beijing on one of the two weekly Trans-Siberian trains. From Beijing, a twice-weekly express runs to Dong Dang on the Vietnamese frontier, where a Vietnamese narrow-gauge train connects for Hanoi. Daily trains link Hanoi with Saigon. From Saigon, there is a daily bus service to Phnom Penh in Cambodia. From Phnom Penh, travel to Bangkok.

Getting TO/AROUND: Asia's first budget airline was bornt when Airasia took the skies for the very first time in Malaysia. Its first route is from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru. But slowly it has expanded its territory coverage to the whole of Malaysia. With its new alliance with the Thai government, Airasia took the Thais by surprise when it signed a joint agreement with Thai Prime Minister's company, Shin Corporation to form Thailand's first low fare carrier. Airasia's Thai domestic airfares starts as low as 9 baht to as high as 600 baht for a way's ticket. One way's ticket from either Bangkok to Phuket or from Phuket to Bangkok is priced at an incredible 500 bahts. However, the disadvantage is you need to book a couple of months before your departure. Be assured that Airasia frequently launches promotion. For more info, please refers to Airasia website at www.airasia.com

madmatg Sat Dec 6, 2008 08:24 UTC Well i stayed at the Karon beach hotel and it was nice. BUT the transport totally ripped us off; the hotel wanted 1500 baht to take us to the airport...crazyness | esmi_74 Tue Nov 13, 2007 04:33 UTC Hi Shane, how much (S$) do I need to bring for a 3d2n stay @ Patong Beach?... We are are family of 5...our package doesn't include lunch & dinner & we intend 2 shop lots of "branded" bags there too! Is S$500 enough or too much? PS : We love to bargain. | phuketres Wed Aug 29, 2007 15:01 UTC The restaurant at the top of Promthep Cape is great for sunset drinks and cocktails, because of the fabulous views. Do not eat here. I have done twice, the Thai food was very expensive, tasteless, and in tiny portions. The service was really bad. | sarahreynold Sun Apr 1, 2007 10:37 UTC Good pics, nice pages. |
