Gori is known for one thing and that is to be the birthplace of Joseph Stalin or Iosif Dzhugashvili as his original Georgian name was. Here the Stalin Avenue is not renamed and his statue still stands in the centre looking out on the main square. I was told that people here still are proud of the city’s famous son but I didn’t engage in any political discussion so I can’t verify that. |
